The Ultimate Guide to the Lamborghini Murciélago SuperVeloce
LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO LP 670-4 SUPERVELOCE– THE MURCIELAGO TO END ALL MURCIELAGOS
The Murcielago 670-4 SuperVeloce, or SV for short, is simply the ultimate Murcielago. Not only was this the final iteration of the big V12 supercar, but it also boasts more power and performance than the platform had ever seen. A huge rear wing and flashy SV graphics make it clear this is not your grandad’s Murcielago. This is a very brash way of saying goodbye to the esteemed model, then, and we wouldn’t expect anything less from Lamborghini.
CREATING THE MONSTER
With its 6.5-litre V12 producing 670 PS, or 661 bhp, the Murcielago LP 670-4 SV bests the original Murcielago by nearly 100 horsepower. Add in the remarkable 100 kg weight loss achieved through the use of various lightweight materials (carbon fibre, mainly), and you get performance figures that are competitive with the world’s best cars to this day. The SV’s 4-wheel drive system helps it achieve 62 mph from a standstill in just 3.2 seconds.

An optional small spoiler must be selected to allow the car to reach its 211-mph top speed. Even with the gigantic standard spoiler, though, the car can do 209 mph. That should be fast enough for most of your day-to-day errands. Standard carbon-ceramic brakes ensure that the 670-4 SV’s stopping power never fades; a reassuring fact to know should you ever decide to verify that top speed. The semi-automatic e-Gear transmission was installed on every SV, save for about 5 cars.
PRODUCTION AND PRICING
Unfortunately, Lamborghini was forced to cut the Murcielago 670-4 SV’s production even shorter than they had initially planned in order to make room for the new Aventadoron their production line. As such, there are only 186 SVs in existence today. A special run of ten 670-bhp “China Limited Edition” SVs was also made for the – you guessed it- Chinese market. Unlike the Diablo SV before it, the £270,000 SV was immensely more expensive than the Murcielago LP 640 that was on sale at the same time. I guess it was only a matter of time before the Italian carmaker realized they can charge more for a faster car.
