KOENIGSEGG CCR– THE SWEDISH BRUTE
Taking over where the CC8S left off, the CCR immediately became the most powerful Koenigsegg ever. Of course, it was also just the second production model for the Swedish manufacturer. Its predecessor wasn’t exactly a slouch, but that didn’t stop Koenigsegg from turning the dial up to 11 on its supercharged Ford engine. The CCR possessed unheard-of power and performance back in 2004 when it debuted, and in fact, it can still hold its own with the best in the world. In fact, it takes a modern Koenigsegg to actually outperform this car.
STYLING AND SPECS
A slightly revised body design left no doubt as to the car’s heritage – it takes a keen eye to spot some of the differences. Notable amongst them are the larger front splitter and rear wing. Meanwhile, Koenigsegg’s signature dihedral doors were carried over from the CC8S, along with many other styling cues. Another carry-over was the rear-mounted 4.7-litre modular Ford V8, although Koenigsegg quickly went to work coaxing as much power out of it as possible. Two Rotrex superchargers were chosen for forced induction duty, resulting in an astonishing 806-bhp output. That’s 160 bhp more than in the already-bonkers CC8S. The magnesium allow wheels and Pilot Sport 2 tyres were both larger now, helping the car cope with all of that power.
Thanks to a carbon-fibre monocoque, the car weighed no more than your standard hatchback, at under 1200 kg dry. With acceleration figures like these, few cars could come close to its performance: 0 to 62 in 3.2 seconds, and a quarter mile time of 11.2 seconds at 139 mph. But, as with most Koenigseggs, the real story here is the top speed. With an officially-recorded 241 mph, the Koenigsegg CCR became the fastest car on the planet in 2005. That figure is also enough to shame most modern hypercars. Take, for instance, the fabulous Porsche 918 and its 217-mph maximum velocity.
Compared to the CC8S, more than twice as many Koenigsegg CCRs were produced, although the final tally was still quite low at just 14. That means that finding one on the used market is a very special event. The CCRs served to built credibility for the manufacturer, allowing them to continue making incredible cars like the CCX and Agera.
