The Ultimate Guide to the Aston Martin Rapide S

ASTON MARTIN RAPIDE S – CONFINED ELEGANCE IN A CONFINED MARKET

For those times when you need to accommodate more than two passengers but still need the style and panache only an Aston Martin can provide, there is the Rapide S. While some might contend that the wide-mouth facelift given to the Rapide in 2013 diminished the car’s aesthetic, it is still no doubt an aggressive statement piece, especially for a saloon.

THE HEART OF THE BEAST

Out front is a 5.9-litre V12 that has been enhanced to make 550 bhp; an impressive 80 horses more than the regular Rapide it replaced. Surprisingly, this engine breathes without the aid of forced induction, a rare thing in modern sports cars. Even with all of that power, there is no getting around the fact that this is a big, heavy car. Its 4400-kg mass is propelled to 62 mph in just under 5 seconds; a tad better than its predecessor’s 5.2 seconds, but not exactly earth-shattering in this era of sub-3 second cars.

BEAUTY OVER PRACTICALITY

We wouldn’t want our Aston Martins feeling too ordinary, would we? Those opting for this marquee tend to prioritize elegance over pragmatism, so it shouldn’t come as a shock that there are some concessions to comfort involved even with the four-door Aston. That sporty roofline swooping down to the wide rear haunches means rear-seat occupants must duck their heads and deal with a rather tight footwell. While Aston claims the Rapide S can accommodate four adults with ease, perhaps children would be better suited for this backseat. Looking past the cramped rear confines, those inside the car will be able to enjoy a well-tailored interior, complete with.

CONCLUSION

So, while the Rapide S isn’t exactly a Rolls-Royce Phantom competitor, it also can’t boast of super-impressive performance stats. It seems that the newest 4-door from Aston Martin might best suit those looking for a large stylish coupe capable of accommodating two extra passengers in a pinch. With such a narrow niche, it’s no wonder that this hasn’t been a runaway success, with production numbers falling far short of Aston’s predicted figures.
