The Ultimate Guide to the Bentley Bentayga
BENTLEY BENTAYGA – BIG THRILLS IN A BIG PACKAGE
It seems no automaker is immune to the SUV infection as of late, and the Bentley Bentayga could be considered to have started the trend of ultra-luxurious SUVs with its 2016 Bentayga. Sharing the same basic platform as the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, this new creation required heaps of luxury and tech to turn it into the £200,000 behemoth it is.
ENGINES GALORE
As of the 2019 model years, buyers are given four engine choices with their Bentayga. Topping the range is a twin-turbocharged V12 capable of producing 600 bhp 664 lb-ft of torque; good for a top speed of 187 mph and 0 to 60 in only 4 seconds. Don’t forget that the Bentayga weighs over 2,400 kgs. Other engines include a diesel V8 capable of traveling over 1,000 miles per tank, gas V8, and the V6 plug-in hybrid intended to herald in the electrification era at Bentley.

SUSPENSION AND OPTIONS
The Bentayga’s auto-levelling air suspension allows a plethora of ride and handling settings including: comfort, sport, “Bentley” mode (somewhere between comfort and sport), snow, sand, etc. As you would expect, the ride and handling are centred around creating a calm, serene atmosphere for its occupants. That doesn’t mean the car can’t hustle around corners, however, as Bentley has installed a trick system called Bentely Dynamic Ride to monitor the car’s stability and keep it as level as possible. This system can also give the big SUV increased wheel articulation, in case any owner happens to find their way off the pavement. As we expect from Bentley, the options list is both comprehensive and pricey. The headliner has to be the Breitling-constructed tourbillon clock offered for a whopping £110,000, or well over half the price of the car.
CONCLUSION
As good as the extant crop of luxury SUVs already was, Bentley knew they had to make something extra special to set the Bentayga apart from the G-Wagens and Range Rovers. It’s clear that no aspect of the car escaped scrutiny, with luxury oozing from every surface of the vehicle. Sales have been strong for the first king of the super-SUVs, so of course other carmakers will be scrambling to offer their competitors. Even with the new Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Lamborghini Urus however, the Bentayga remains a highly tempting proposition.
