The Ultimate Guide to the Koenigsegg Agera R
KOENIGSEGG AGERA R – THE FASTEST GETS EVEN FASTER
How do you improve on a car that already boasts over 900 bhp and can reach 249 mph? Well, just ask Koenigsegg, because that’s exactly what they did with the second model in the Agera line, the Agera R. Aside from the upgraded performance, the Swedish manufacturer set the “R” apart from the standard Agera by adding exposed carbon fibre to the front bonnet and bumper and added new winglets on the side of the car.
RECORD-SETTING PERFORMANCE
The Koenigsegg Agera R uses the same 5.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 from the standard Agera, only in this application, it produces 1,115 bhp rather than 927 thanks to an increased RPM limit AND it can run on biofuel. A new Aero exhaust system was installed as well. Even though this would be enough power to make a motor coach feel fast, Koenigsegg still used every trick in the book to keep the Agera R’s weight as low as possible. From carbon-fibre chassis components to Kevlar and honeycomb-patterned Aluminium, nearly every component of the vehicle was lightened.

With a final kerb weight of only 1,435 kgs, the Agera R sports a 1.24 kg per bhp power-to-weight ratio. This insane hypercar can leap to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and hit 300 in just 14.53 seconds, which was a world record back in 2011. And I have good news for anyone lucky enough to drive the Agera R at these insane speeds: A new in-house ceramic piston brake setup means the car also has monumental stopping power. In fact, the Agera R set the record for the 0-300-0 kph run back in 2011 as well, with a time of 21.19 seconds.
2013 UPDATE AND FINAL PRODUCTION FIGURES
At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Koenigsegg introduced an updated version of the Agera R, which featured new carbon-fibre wheels as well as even more power. The car now made an astounding 1,124 bhp, although I’m quite sure no mortal would be able to detect the presence of 9 horsepower on a car with over 1,000 bhp. As you can imagine, the Koenigsegg Agera R is not a mass-produced vehicle. In total, just 18 examples were produced between 2011 and 2014.
