There are Ferrari collectors and collections, but Eric Clapton’s Ferrari Collection is arguably among the best in the world. He has been a huge fan of the cars from Maranello for many years, owning some greats like the Ferrari F40 and 365 GT4 BB.

Back in 2012 he grabbed everyone’s attention and imagination by commissioning Ferrari to build him a one-off car, the Ferrari SP12 EC. This at a time when Ferrari were only just starting to produce the one-off customer commissioned models. He chose to take a 458 Italia and improve the design with more than a hint of the BB. The results were stunning, and the car today is said to be worth in excess of $4m.

But not all of his cars had huge tailoring done upfront, as can be found with his previously owned Ferrari 612 Scaglietti coming up for auction in October. At the time of launch the looks of the 612 were controversial, and although I was a naysayer at the time I’m a huge fan now. The controversy came because it replaced one of the most elegant gentleman continent crushers of all time, the Ferrari 456M. Today the Scaglietti doesn’t look bad at all. Bravo Ferrari.

Eric Clapton’s Ferrari 612 is spec’ed in the best colour combination of Blu Mirabeau over beige hide. Unlike his commissioned cars, this was only fitted with £3,000 worth of extras. This included rear parking sensors, heated front seats and enamel Ferrari badges on the wings worth £1,045. It seems other than that he thought it was perfect.

He owned the car for four years and covered just 12,000 miles in that time. Today the car has had a second owner and the mileage has doubled to 24,000 miles.

Eric Clapton’s Ferrari 612 Auction

The car comes up at H&H Auctions on 17thOct. The auction house think it will achieve £55,000-75,000, but I think Eric Clapton’s Ferrari 612 Scaglietti might get a bit more.

Here is what H&H say about it:

Guitar legend Eric Clapton is renowned for his love of Ferraris and has owned many a Prancing Horse over the years. This Scaglietti was one of them and built to his specification in 2004 including:red brake callipers, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, Scuderia enamel wing shields, passenger airbag off system, leather headlining and dedication plate in silver. The car has had two ensuing owners, yet the total mileage still sits at a mere 29,252. The vendor purchased ‘RX54 BCK’ in 2016 for £78,000, since when it has been professionally stored at a steady 22 degrees Celsius by AutoVault of Great Dunmow Essex (who specialise in storing high value Ferrari motor vehicles in a dust free controlled environment).

As experts in the care of high value cars they have also started the 612 once a week and driven it for half a mile once a month. The service book contains five stamps – two by H R Owen, two by Graypaul and the last by JCT600 of Brooklands for a major service and cambelt change carried out on July 13, 2016. Finished in Blu Mirabeau and trimmed in a suitably contrasting shade of Beige hide, the Ferrari is presently described the vendor as ‘concours’, and comes complete with a history file that includes Eric Clapton’s original order form and the aforementioned service history.

If you’re a Ferrari-loving Clapton fan, then this is clearly the car for you retaining as it does the plaque commemorating its build for him on the dashboard!

If you end up being the lucky owner of Eric Clapton’s Ferrari, get in touch! We would love to feature the car on SupercarTribe.
