Friday Drool – 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2: A Family Affair

What better way to bond with your children or grandchildren than to share with them your love of the finer things in life? This 1963 Ferrari 250 GT/E might just be the perfect car to introduce the small ones to the joys of classic car ownership. Like no other production Ferrari before it, the GT/E featured a 2+2 seating arrangement, with a small backseat suitable for children or quite small adults. Combine that with the luxurious leather-trimmed interior, and this GT car is sure to be a treat for the whole family.

While it might be a more comfortable Ferrari meant more for cruising than setting blistering track times, this is hardly a softie. Under the bonnet resides a splendid Tipo 128E V12 producing 240 bhp. Mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive, this cruiser has plenty of power to entertain the little ones. The 250 GTE was a big hit for Ferrari, with the unprecedented 2+2 body style drawing in customers like no previous model had been able to. Nearly 1000 examples of the luxury grand tourer were sold from 1960 to 1963.

Chassis no. 04611, a Pininfarina designed 250, is currently listed for sale at Vintage and Prestige Classic cars in Essex. Here is what the dealership has to say about it:

04611 is a correct matching numbers series three car which is differentiated from the previous models by having the “big valve” engine making it the most powerful of the 250 GTE’s and exterior upgrades included the fog lights placed outside the grill to the inside of the headlights and rear tail lights also became one unit whereas on the first two series the tail lights where 3 bulbs in a vertical line.

As shown in the galleries mechanical works have always been kept up to date and performed by specialist, to start and drive she is perfect and does not miss a beat. In our showroom and ready for viewing.

The listing also notes that the car has a recently re-trimmed interior and fresh new Grigio Fumo paint job. With an asking price of £380,000, this pristine 250 GT/E offers the chance to experience one of the earliest examples of what Ferrari are now famous for: exceptional levels of luxury combined with world-class performance. And just check out the gorgeous interior on this car; truly a special place to be. I would imagine that cruising around in a car like this would create some extremely special childhood memories.
